SALTA

This province north of Argentina limits with Jujuy, Tucumán, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero and Formosa.
Salta is subdivided in four well-defined areas, from west to east: Subregión de la Puna, Cordillera Oriental, Sierras Subandinas and Llanura Chaqueña. Each region has a different and unique landscape.

La Quebrada de las Conchas - Cafayate:
On our way to Cafayate we will drive through Las Conchas Creek, then we´ll come onto some rock formations that have quite unusual shapes like "The Castles", "The Amphitheatre", "The Devil´s Throat", "The Obelisk", and others. During this very interesting itinerary we will also visit some vineyards.
Tren a las Nubes (Train to the Clouds):
This train has an architecture like no other in the world, and it will transport us to impressive heights from the city of Salta to the Polvorilla Viaduct. We´ll go up through curly roads and zigzags to reach an ultimate altitude of 13,850 feet (4220 km) above the sea.

TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS:
This railroad reaching 13,850 feet above the sea is one of the highest lines in the world. The train offers on-board dinner service, translation and medical assistance for those passengers who might experience problems due to lack of oxygen. The whole trip is approximately 16 hours long, leaving at 7am and arriving around midnight. The train rides for 134 miles, going through 29 bridges, 21 tunnels, 13 viaducts, 2 "curls" and 2 zigzags. During the route, two stops are made. The first one at San Antonio de los Cobres Station, and the second one at La Polvorilla viaduct. The train departs from the city of Salta, the lowest point, and goes upwards from there up to the end of the route at La Polvorilla, which is the highest point. There are street markets at every stop, where crafts, clothes and regional products can be purchased as souvenirs of this exciting trip.
